How to conceive the sex of your choice is something alot of people wish they could do, and wouldn't it be wonderful if you could do just that - deciding whether you want a girl or a boy, and getting your wish!


Well in reality, it's not quite that easy, and it's more of a gamble, like say... a 50/50 chance!!

Did you know at conception, the gender of your infant-to-be is determined by chromosome characteristics?

Did you know it's the male’s sperm that dictates whether your baby will be a boy or a girl?

There are alot of myths and taboos that float through society about how to conceive the sex of the child that you want, but basically, alot of the picking and choosing really comes down to science!

The females unfertilised egg always carries an X chromosome (the chromosome responsible for you having a girl) while the sperm from the male can carry either an X or a Y chromosome (that is, you may be impregnated with either a girl or boy chromosome), so ultimately the gender of your baby will all hinge on whether the chromosome coming from the male partner's sperm is an X (a girl); or a Y (a boy).

Here are the facts:

- Sperm usually reaches the fallopian tubes in anywhere between 20 minutes and 2 hours.
- Sperm are viable for up to about 7 day’s tops inside a woman, with the female sperm usually outliving the male sperm. The unfertilised female sperm therefore usually lives the longest inside the female.
- The male chromosome sperm however is usually a quicker swimmer than the female chromosome sperm, making its journey to the egg before the female egg can.

With all of this in mind, there are still things you can do to increase your odds of a baby girl or your choice of a baby boy being conceived.
