Test Sperm at Home or at the Doctors?

Whether you decide to do a test at home or at a laboratory, either way you will need to abstain from ejaculating 3 days beforehand.
This is so you can get the most accurate test possible and also because sperm begins to die inside the man.
If doing an at-home sperm test, all the instructions will come with it, but it's always important to ensure testing is done immediately after ejaculation, as sperm doesn't survive very long after being ejaculated. Do not leave it more than 30 minutes, or you are wasting the test because your results won't be accurate.
The sperm test will check for things like volume (how many mls come out), count (how many sperm are present in the ejaculation), motility (if it swims forward and fast), viscosity (to see if the semen has the right consistency), ph levels, morphology (the shape of the sperm to see if it is abnormally shaped), and the mobility of the sperm.
Dependant upon your test results it will indicate to you where the problem may be and than give you the information you need to work out what you need to do to overcome your infertility problem.
