What Makes Up A
Healthy Pregnancy Diet Plan?
Learn What To Eat And What To Avoid
A healthy pregnancy diet is vital to give your baby and you the best chance.
Did you know there are things you should eat more of, things you should eat less and things you should totally avoid all-together whilst pregnant?
Eating healthy could be the difference between your child having a great start to life, or a harder start in life.
Let's start with food you should avoid:
- Pre-cooked or ready prepared cold foods that can't be reheated such as pre-prepared bought salads, quiches, and delicatessen meats like ham and salami.
- Pate
- soft and blue vein cheese such as Brie and Camembert
- Raw eggs
- Sushi take away
- Soft serve ice-creams
- Liver has been linked to birth defects so you should limit your intake of liver whilst pregnant.
What About Food You Should Be Eating?
- Eat a diet will high in fiber, it will help prevent you getting constipation (a common annoyance in pregnancy)
- Eat plenty of complex carbohydrates that are high in GI for long lasting energy
- Eat foods full of protein such as red meat. Protein is important for skin, tissue and muscle growth
- Eat from all the five food groups and follow the food triangle so that you receive all your essential vitamins and minerals, and the right amounts of each group.
-Drink 2 liters of water a day to help flush toxins from your kidneys. 2 liters is about the equivalent of 8 glasses of water daily
- Try and have one meal each day that is mainly green leafed based - that is it could contain silver-beet, spinach, basil leaves, kale, parsley, lettuce, celery etc. The darker the green, the better! In-fact these are the best fertility food choices for women who are trying to get pregnant too!
