Thyroid And Infertility:
Diagnose, Treat, Manage.
If you think you might have thyroid problems, the first step you should take is to book a doctors appointment.
When you visit your doctor, tell them that you suspect you could be having thyroid issues, and that you are trying to conceive. If you have successfully conceived before, only to miscarry, tell the doctor this information too.
The test you should ask for is known as a Thyroid Stimulating hormone test, or TSH test.
Your doctor may say to you that you have nothing to worry about when you get your test result, but even though the normal range is within 0.5 to 5.5, if you have a TSH result higher than 2.0 you should be cautious, because it is believed that women with a reading of 2.0 or higher could have trouble conceiving and sustaining a pregnancy without the threat of miscarriage.
Even if you do find out that you have a thyroid problem it's always a good idea to make sure there aren't any other underlying reasons you may have for infertility, and remember it's not always just the female who can have problems with conception. Males have been known to be the cause of infertility in couples at least 30% of the time.
So make sure you check out the most common reasons for infertility, as knowing what could be causing your pregnancy problems and conception problems could provide you with the key to solving those problems.
