If you've been trying to conceive for a while, you could be displaying signs of depression without even realizing. People can be depressed for many reasons, so if you are depressed for another reason, don't go anywhere, you can still apply some of the coping strategies to your life.
It's hard trying to get pregnant month in month out without the presence of two lines to take you to the next stage, pregnancy.
So how do you know if you are depressed? A lot of people may mistaken depression for tiredness, sadness, anxiety or just feel they are off their 'A' Game lately.
Sometimes the signs of depression aren't that obvious, especially for those who have been steeped in depression for a long time.

Depression can occur in a number of ways. It can either take its toll on you physically, emotionally, in a behavioral way, or in a cognitive manner.
Recognizing if you are depressed is important, because than you may be able to take action to try and get your body and mind back into a better pattern, so that life is fulfilling and enjoyable.

The following are signs of depression:


Physical Depression Signs - Low energy, fatigue or a continual feeling of exhaustion

- Erratic sleep patterns. Your patterns may be irregular. You could be waking earlier, even when your body screams to sleep longer.

- Decreased appetite - you may have no desire for food, and even find yourself skipping meals.

- Increased appetite - you could be experiencing the opposite problem, stress may be making you eat, and eat, and eat!

- You could find yourself losing your sexual appetite. Not a good thing if you are trying for a baby!

Emotional Depression Signs

- A general feeling of sadness - you could be feeling sad all the time. You might feel a persistent feeling of misery or just feel gloomy all the time.

- Normal everyday tasks may feel overwhelming or impossible, or just so hard! It could be as simple as making lunch or washing up. You might even neglect these things.

- You may be very apathetic, you're 'going to do something' but you don't and you don't know how to change it.

- You could have a feeling of numbness - you don't feel any particular way about anything.

- You may experience helplessness and feelings of hopelessness.

- You may suffer panic attacks, have anxiety feel irritable or very tense.

- Your confidence may take a dive. It could be very low and you may be carrying a lot of self-doubt.

- You might have low self-esteem, feel ugly or unattractive.

- You might find you feel nothing. Anything you could have enjoyed or found pleasurable won't feel the same anymore.

Behavioral Depression Signs

- You may find yourself withdrawing from society and people, you might even start disliking people in general.

- You may find yourself withdrawing from work, activities and pleasures you normally enjoy.

- You can feel restless

- You may cry more than usual, lots of heavy sighing or moaning.

- You may not even want to get out of bed. Some people who are depressed don't get out of bed and stay in their pajamas all day.

- Your energy level may be low, and you may not feel like doing anything.

- Everything might just seem too hard, uninteresting, boring, like a chore. Your motivation might have left you.

Cognitive Depression Signs


- You may find your ability to make decisions is harder

- You may find it hard to focus or concentrate on anything

- You may feel a general disinterest in activities, people and life in general, you could be very pessimistic

- You may start turning against yourself - criticizing yourself, blaming yourself and having self-loathing.

- You might even have thoughts of harming yourself or even suicide.

- You could only see your problems and failures.If you, or someone you know is displaying any signs of depression make sure you talk to them, or if it is you, find someone you can trust to talk to.
If you find your depression is severe, see your doctor or a Councillor. Depression is serious, but there are ways you can change how you are feeling with some guidance, some help, and maybe an ear to listen.
