Types Of Surrogacy

Types Of Surrogacy

There are two types of surrogacy, they are known as gestational and traditional. The two types have differences that may factor into your decision.
Surrogacy is when a woman carries a child that is actually for someone else, in a way, the woman carrying the baby is like a baby incubator for the intended parents. At the end of the pregnancy the intended parents will become the legal mother and father of the child.
Surrogacy is the ultimate sacrifice any fertile woman can make for a someone who really wants to be a parent, but can't naturally.
Surrogacy is not for everyone, and it is very emotionally taxing so it is something you have to be serious and focused about. It can be overwhelming even if you do feel you are as prepared as you can be.
However, if you can remain strong throughout the process, the reward at the end will be more than worth it!

The Two Types of Surrogacy

Gestational Surrogacy

Gestational Surrogacy is the most popular form of surrogacy. It involves a woman carrying the mother-to-be's egg and the father-to-be (or chosen males) sperm.
The egg and sperm are mixed together in a dish to form an embryo, which is than implanted in the female (through IVF) who hopefully will carry the baby to term for the intended parents.

Traditional Surrogacy

In the event that the intended parents eggs and/or sperm cannot be used a donor's egg or sperm may be used and this is known as traditional surrogacy.
What usually happens in this case is the woman carrying the baby will use her egg and be implanted artificially via IUI (or Intrauterine Insemination) with sperm from the intended father, or if not possible, by another donor sperm. Hopefully the sperm will fertilise the egg and lead to a pregnancy.
