Using A Basal Body Thermometer To Get Pregnant

Using A Basal Body Thermometer
To Get Pregnant

Plenty of women have used a basal body thermometer to help them achieve pregnancy.

How Does It Work?

Basically you record your temperature each day and when your temperature rises slightly (normally your temperature will rise by atleast .3 of a degree more than the temperatures you've been experiencing in the first half of your cycle), it's an indication you are ready to ovulate or are ovulating.
Your temperature will then remain elevated for the 2nd half of your cycle and perhaps rise even more during your luteal phase, after ovulation.
This is a result of your progesterone hormone kicking into gear to try and make your ovaries a friendly place for your embryo to implant (if your egg does manage to get fertilised by a sperm).

Important Tips When Using Your BBT

A Basal Body Thermometer, or BBT is a cost effective way to monitor your fertility and help you pinpoint your most fertile time of each month.

- Always take your temperature when you wake, this means before you have a glass of water, before you get up to go to the toilet. Basically, before you do ANYTHING! Have it next to you on your bedside table or somewhere handy for you to grab immediately upon waking.

- It's important you take your temperature at the same time each day. It's very frustrating when you want to have a sleep in! I usually just pop it in my mouth half asleep, then when it beeps I turn it off and keep sleeping (my thermometer has a memory in it of the last temp recorded).

- You need to have atleast 3 hours sleep before recording your temperature. That's because your bodies resting temperature needs that amount of time of relaxion to hit the temperature you will record.

- You shouldn't use a normal thermometer, that's because a standard thermometer won't pinpoint your temperature down to the .01 of a degree, whereas a BBT will.

Not only will a BBT help you pinpoint ovulation, but it can tell you when you aren't ovulating. Vital info like this can save you months of fruitless attempts to get pregnant.
See, if you aren't ovulating, there are medications and procedures that can be used to help you get pregnant. If you don't ovulate, you can't get pregnant naturally.
