A Balanced Diet:
Get Pregnant Quicker By Eating Healthily
Want to have a balanced diet so you can increase your odds of becoming pregnant quicker?
Portion sizing is a big thing to watch. Try and have smaller sized meals, and it's also important to make sure you don't skip breakfast.
Fruit and Vegetables
Aim for five portions a day.
Carbohydrate Foods
If you are trying to lose weight to get back to your ideal body weight you shouldn't go overboard on your intake of carbohydrates.
However, it is still essential to have carbohydrates as part of a blanced diet if you are looking to increase your fertility regardless. Preferably foods like wholegrain breads, pasta and rice. Potatoes are also a good option too.
Protein
Protein should be a big part a balanced diet if you are looking to boost your fertility.
Lean meat, chicken, fish eggs and pulses (beans and lentils) are all food items you should include in your diet.
Fish
Oily fish should be eaten atleast twice a week, but no more than two portions per day.
Too much fish can lead you to have high mercury levels, and higher mercury levels can actually be toxic to your ability to fall pregnant. I wouldn't eat it more than three times a week.
This does not include canned tuna, however fresh tuna, mackeral, sardines and trout are fine.
Dairy Foods
Dairy foods are integral to prepping your body for good fertility. Not only will it prepare you for pregnancy, but it will help you during pregnancy when your body needs bone strength.
Some women who don't have enough calcium end up with dental problems and so forth because their bodies were depleted of calcium during pregnancy when all the goodness goes to the baby.
So make sure you have dairy products like milk, cheese, and yoghurt as part of your balanced diet.
Iron-rich Foods
Iron rich foods like red meat, pulses, dried fruit, bread, green vegetables and fortified breakfast cereals are all good fertility foods.
Drink Water
It's always good to make sure you drink plenty of water. I'm sure you've heard this before, but it is easy to forget to drink enough sometimes. Just remember the golden rule of 8 to 10 glasses a day.
Water helps your body transport nutrients and waste throughout your body.
Signs you may need to drink some water are: coloured yellow urine with a strong odour, also if you aren't urinating frequently it could be a sign too.
If you are thirsty, you are already dehydrated, so get some water into you as soon as you can.
Exercise
If you are having problems maintaining a healthy weight, exercise is one good way to help curb your weight and increase your confidence. It goes hand in hand with a balanced diet.
Moderate and regular exercise has much more benefit then making you feel good though, it not only helps you lead a healthy lifestyle (which is good for you anyway) but can help occupy your mind and give you something to focus on and attain to whilst in the midst of trying to become pregnant.
Like anything, it is never good to over-do exercise as this too can adversely affect your hormonal balance and even impair ovulation (due to a lack of body fat). Excessive exercise can even impair placental and foetal growth, so try to strike a balance. Good choices in exercise may be things like Yoga, Pilates, Aqua Aerobics, brisk walking, or exercising at the gym. Consult with your local doctor to make sure what is okay for you.
