Alcohol And Fertility: Does Drinking Hinder Your Ability To Conceive?

Alcohol And Fertility:
Does Drinking Hinder
Your Ability To Conceive?

alcohol and fertility
Alcohol and fertility. The two don't go hand in hand. It's unfortunate news if you do enjoy drinking. I can tell you myself that when I found out I had to cut right back on drinking it didn't make me feel overjoyed, and as for my husband, he's still having trouble with the idea!
But if you do want to give yourself the best chance of getting pregnant you have to stop drinking.

According to American Fertility Specialists several glasses of wine a week can hinder your ability to conceive, and for men as little as one beer a day. Particularly if you have subfertility, or if you are undertaking IVF.

There has been less successful pregnancies for those who drink around the time of fertilisation.
Research has also shown that drinking alcohol causes a decrease in sperm count, an increase in abnormal sperm and a lower proportion of motile sperm.
Not only that but alcohol also inhibits the body's absorption of nutrients such as zinc, which is one of the most important minerals for male fertility.

What Should You Do?

parents
It's simple, don't drink! Easier said than done right?
But think about it, what is more important to you?
Having a baby, or having a drink? If you answer 'having a baby,' than refer back to the 'not drinking rule' again!

Think of all the other health benefits you will have from not drinking too.

Typically, you shouldn't drink for 3 months before you try to conceive. That's because it takes sperm three months to regenerate.
