Fertility and Age

Fertility and Age

Unfortunately for women fertility and age play a huge factor in the ability to conceive.

Basically the longer a woman waits to have children, the more likely she faces declining egg quality, along with other issues that occur only in older women trying to fall pregnant.

This doesn't mean that if you are 43 you are no longer fertile.
Infact every individual is different, a 43 year old could even have better egg quality and quantity than a 30 year old, depending on her personal factors.
Males are a little more lucky when it comes to fertility and age.
Age doesn't appear to be as much as an issue for them when, this is mainly due to the male being able to reproduce sperm every 3 months, so they have the chance to change things, and start fresh.
For example, my husband was a heavy smoker, it majorly effected his sperm motility, but by quitting smoking, three months later his sperm motility was greatly improved.

Unfortunately for women, the body clock saying isn't just a myth!

What Happens When You Get Older

Unfortunately females are born with all their eggs, and there is no re-supply, so as your eggs deplete each month, your egg count continually goes down, until one day you are infertile.

Your chances of conception start slowly declining in your early 30's, with a more rapid decline occuring in the late 30's and early 40's.
There a few women over 44 who are still fertile, but the number is very slim.
Even IVF success rates start dropping in early 30's, which a much faster fall around the age of 38. Miscarriage rates also increase with the age of the pregnant woman.
If you have been trying for a baby and you under the age of 30 your chances technically are greater than someone who is say, 45. But if you are are in this older age bracket, you must not let this prevent you from trying.
