His Fertility:
Get A Sperm Test
If you have been trying for a while now (that is - 12 months if you are under 34 years, and 6 months if you are over the age of 35), and you still haven’t had any luck conceiving, it might be a good idea to have a semen analysis conducted.
The female may be healthy and have all the right components to become pregnant, but sometimes the male partner may have some underlying infertility issues.
Check out this video about testing sperm at home:
What Will The Test Look For?
It will gauge the sperm's mobility, to see if they are moving correctly, and will evaluate the motility, that is, the condition of the swimmers too.
For instance, they may be abnormally shaped - and if too many are, they might not be making it to the egg, rendering conception impossible.
In Australia you can usually get a referral from your doctor to go to a public hospital for an analysis which is free.
Having a sperm analysis will not only put your mind at ease knowing if there are any problems, but it may just point you in the right direction to being able to resolve some of your underlying infertility issues.
You will find if you end up visiting a fertility center, they will want to re-test in much more depth to discover more than what the general test from the hospital would have revealed. But at least if you start with a test from the hospital, you will have an idea if there are indeed any problems to begin with.If there are problems revealed, don't panic!
It’s encouraging to know that sperm quality can be improved in a lot of instances – quitting smoking and alcohol consumption is one way some males can improve the quality of their sperm, almost immediately! Sperm takes about 3 months to regenerate in the male body, which is great because in a lot of cases the male can improve their sperm quality just by changing to better habits.
