Why would you want to know how to calculate ovulation?
The answer is simple. It might just help you time intercourse better so your chances of conceiving stand to be much greater.

Calculating your ovulation can be done in a number of ways.

You can use an ovulation predictor kit which makes it really easy, or you can manually calculate when you ovulate by assessing how many days are normally in your cycle, and subtracting 2 weeks from the first day of your period. You can use our Ovulation Calculator to work out when you ovulate.
The average day of ovulation for women is around 14 days, right in the middle of your cycle.
But you need to remember, not everyone's cycles are the same, so even though you might think you ovulate on day 14, you may ovulate day 15, 16, 17 or even earlier on day 12 or 13.

If your cycle is really out, than there's no telling when you might ovulate, in in that case, you are definitely best to go with using an ovulation predictor kit to help you out.

If you have a normal luteal phase, that is, after you ovulate you don't get your period for 2 weeks, than manually working it out is highly possible.
For instance, just say your cycle is about 30 days long each month, like mine, than you will find you probably ovulate typically somewhere between day 15 and 17, like me.

What Is Ovulation?

Ovulation is the release of an egg from the ovary. The egg travels into your fallopian tubes where it waits to hopefully be fertilized. It does this by sending a chemical 'beacon' out to any sperm that made it to the tubes, encouraging them to swim towards it.

In order for pregnancy to occur, the egg must be fertilized by the sperm within 24 hours after its release. Now you know how to calculate ovulation, you can try and give conception a little push along with the advantage you now have for mother nature to take its course!
