Ovarian Cyst Symptoms:
How do you know if you have one?
Ovarian Cyst symptoms can vary from person to person, but before you learn about the symptoms, you may not even know what an ovarian cyst is, or how you even get one.
What Is An Ovarian Cyst?
Ovarian Cysts reside within your ovaries. They are sealed sac-like structures either made up of fluid, gaseous or even a semi-solid substance.
There are a few different ways you can get a cyst, either as a result of endometriosis, or your corpus luteum (tissue within the ovary which occurs after the egg is released from its follicle) not breaking down. Women with polycystic ovarian syndrome also get cysts too.
The most common way however is each month when your egg is released at ovulation. The egg originates inside of a follicle that is formed in your ovaries. If that follicle does not open to allow the egg out, it may grow, just like an unpopped pimple might!
Most cysts usually sort themselves out without any need for intervention anywhere between a few days or months. But what are some of the common symptoms and classic signs of ovarian cysts?
Common Symptoms Of Ovarian Cysts
Alot of cysts have no symptoms and will go completely unnoticed. That is because most of them won't last long and will resolve spontaneously.
If ruptured though (usually through intercourse, injury or childbirth) or if they become too large you may experience the following ovarian cyst symptoms:
- pain in the belly
- pain in the pelvis
- pressure or distortion of adjacent anatomical structures
- abdominal fullness
- bloating
- indigestion
- feeling full after eating a small amount
- feeling the urge to defecate
- difficulty defecating
- painful sexual intercourse
