The Stuff People Say
That You Don't Need To Hear!

People who already have children love nothing more than telling you their fertility advice and stories of easy success when you are having trouble trying to become pregnant. And isn't it wonderful being on the receiving end of all this insightful advice? (!!)
Just for fun, here are some things people say in ignorance... unless you have been down the long hard road of 'trying' to get pregnant, it's very hard for other people to understand the agitation you may feel when they are giving you 'advice.'
Infact, they probably won't understand, but here are some of the 'well-meaning' things they may say, that just don't come across to you as very 'helpful!'

You Don't Need!

1. He just had to look at me and I got pregnant! (now that's helpful 'advice!')

2. I got pregnant first month after coming off the pill!

3. I got pregnant ON the pill/using a condom/drunk as a skunk!

4. We didn't even WANT a baby!

5. We weren't even TRYING and it JUST happened! (this one usually ranks quite highly as one of the most irritating pieces of 'advice' we hear from friends and family!)

6. JUST STOP TRYING and it will happen! (this little piece of 'fertility advice' usually comes a close second!)

7. Go on a holiday, if that doesn't do it for you – nothing will!

8. Just relax! It'll happen.

9. Stop analysing things – you're thinking about it too much!

10. Stop being so negative, if you just think positive thoughts, it will happen!

11. Don't worry, you guys make enough money on two incomes – just enjoy it while you don't have kids!

12. There's always adoption?

13. Maybe you're just not meant to have children? (another favourite on the 'fertility advice' list!)

14.Not everyone can have children, maybe you're one of them?

15. Start praying!

16. You already have one child, just be thankful for that (for those with secondary fertility problems)

17. So when are you gonna have a little one?

18. Don't you guys want children?

19. Does your husband/partner shoot blanks?

20. You guys must be thinking about it too much, just go and have wild passionate uninhibited sex!

21. Just quit trying, we know a couple that tried FOREVER and as soon as they stopped trying they fell pregnant.

Why Are These Comments So Irritating?

The most frustrating part about listening to everyones' advice is knowing that they don't really understand what you are experiencing. The way they flippantly comment making non-sensical suggestions that do nothing to help you, except make you feel worse, can really make you want to slap them sometimes! Also, do any of their comments like those above really help give you proper fertility advice that will actually help you fall pregnant? You and I both know the answer to that!
Still they will feel like they are imparting a golden tree of knowledge to you!
You've probably already tried a lot of what they've said to do anyway! Which also probably included having 'given up trying' for a period of time too!

With people, some of the things they say can even be a little egotistical - “he only had to look at me and I fell pregnant.” It gives them bragging rights, but a lot of the time they don't mean it like that. Still it doesn't help you feel any better.
