Got inflammation of the gums? This is one of the first gingivitis symptoms you will be confronted with if you get this gum disease.

Gingivitis is brought on by the presense of plaque.
Plaque is a soft and sticky colorless film of bacteria, and it will always form, but the key to avoiding gum disease such as gingivitis, or plaque build-up is to removed it daily.

How To Avoid Getting Gingivitis

You can steer clear of gingivitis by ensuring you brush your teeth and floss them daily.

If you don't the plaque will build up, and release toxins, or poisons, into your mouth, which is how your gums become irritated, and how gingivitis forms.
If you can do this, and prevent the disease from worsening, you can basically reverse the damage, but once the bone and connective tissue become affected, that's when you'll have some more serious problems. It can turn into periodontitis and leave you with permanent damage.

Eating right is also a great way to avoid gingivitis, healthy wholesome unprocessed food is also good to eat. Fruit packed with citris are great options because of their acidic effect. Avoiding smoking is also recommended, the smoke makes things stick more to your teeth and creates a stain over time.
And of course, last but not least, visit your dentist. There may be plaque that you can't remove, but they can.

What Are Gingivitis Symptoms?

If you have red, swollen and tender gums, then you probably have gingivitis.
If your gums bleed when you brush, you probably have it.
Other symptoms can include your gums folding away or receding from your teeth making your mouth gappier. This actually gives food more places to gather and collect, creating further bacteria to house in your mouth.
Another sign that you have gingivitis could be bad breath which could be a result of the overgrowth of bacteria.
