Can you get pregnant?

Pregnancy After 40 - There are definitely benefits to being an older mother!
It's just the 'getting pregnant' part you might be having trouble with.

If you have been trying for longer than 6 months, it's time to visit your doctor and get fertility testing done.

It's normal for older women to have trouble conceiving.

Check out this video about how age affects fertility in a woman

Unfortunately, age does matter because women are born with all their eggs. If you want to get pregnant, by the time you are 40 you've already lost a lot of your eggs through years of menstruation.
Your egg quality may be diminishing too.
Having said that, pregnancy after 40 is still possible and does happen for many women. In fact I just went to a baby shower for a 25 year old. Her 45 year old mother was at the baby-shower with her naturally conceived 1 year old baby.
She was overjoyed. The father is experiencing fatherhood for the very first time. Something he had always longed for.
Luckily for the mother, her fertility was in tip-top shape and she actually wasn't trying for too long. In fact, her fertility would even be better than some 27 year olds, or even some 21 year olds!
See, we are all different, and there are a lot of factors that can play into your ability to be able to conceive, not limited to age.

The Benefits Of Having A Baby Older

There are advantages to getting pregnant when you are older too! Being older, you generally have more life experience, you might be more patient, have developed more tolerance and you might even be in a better place in your life than you were in your teens or early 20's.

Perhaps by this stage of life, you might be set up a little better, you might have your own home or have paid off a car and be more settled.
Perhaps you've experienced the things you want to like a career, or traveling already, and have the mind-set of applying your life to starting a family wholeheartedly.

Alot of older women tend to be leading healthier lifestyles than when they were younger. Being older you probably have a better understanding of your body, and you might be better equipped to deal with stress and the things life may throw your way.
As you get older you generally know what you want, and have a stronger confidence and feeling of contentment.
Also, if you are trying to have a baby, you have the added bonus of having made the choice to have a baby. Therefore you will be much better mentally prepared and eager for this stage in your life.
One other positive point is the outcome of the baby after birth is often no less than a younger mother's baby.
Pregnancy after 40 is a doable thing. A lot more women are having babies later in life today. Maybe you will be one of the many?
Goodluck with your journey!
